Verification Rule.

I get that I wont see my birds come but in the event of a holdover I think that the 30 min rule could be dropped or should be able to phone the sec and say dont disqualify my bird as I will be at a wedding or whatever.

Ah. I didnt mean on the day of the race King. I meant at the time of the announcement of the holdover - the day before. Or send an e.mail.
I didnt really consider it as an 'excuse" as you put it but more of a pre- determined agreement that you wouldnt be in a position to verify your bird within 30 mins because of the situation the holdover has put you in.
It would add a bit more flexibility to the rule.
- I guess that last sentence containing rule and flexibility is a contradiction in itself but was asking why the rule was needed in the first place.

As I said Dave as much as anything it is to be able to give a potential result on the day of the race. Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
This has always been a rule. Going back to the NFC back in the 80s, and probably before as other members may remember. No ETS, mobile phones or internet in those days. All verifications had to be made directly to the secretary by phone stating loft number, ring number and time of arrival. Plus the wing stamp number put on the pigeon at marking.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.

I hear what you are saying Andy but the bicc dont publish even a provisional result until 5 or 6 pm anyway or even later as do other nationals, so that cant be the reason.

I get your frustration Dave, unfortunately hold overs do bring challenges, unfortunately from these Nationals and Classics they happen very frequently.
I'm afraid I have to say that I like the rule, as it does enable a provisional result to put up on the race day. As others have said, it always has been a rule, yes it might make things a little trickier but we always found ways around it if we couldn't be there. I've had my days of having to work Saturdays and Sundays, also from the longer races often the birds wouldn't be home until during the week due to holdovers etc so you just had to try and find someone else to clock in for you.
I'm afraid these days my family know that from Mid April to Mid September weekends are for pigeons and I don't do anything until I know what's happening with them.

Got knocked by 219 ypm 
Bird was in at 3.55 and I couldnt verify til I got in at just after 6pm. So, the sec of bicc told me if you dont verify within half an hour you get given your verification time.
But how ironic is it that your second and subsequent birds still gets their clocking time without any penalty.
If it happens again, I 'll just have to hope for 2 coming together
