2 more days until my first ever Old bird + yearling Racing seasons starts. No experience with old birds yet maximum effort and trust. The small team of 10 hen's is looking very sharp and in great shape. Started to loose their down feathers at the start of the week which i been told is a good sign and their droppings look perfect. All of them were checked by a vet and they have no canker or any other type of disease. Its gonna be a tough race the winds are really not doing us a favor but there is no space for excuses in the sport. 862 Pigeons gonna be participating on about 120 miles. Now its a matter of if i can continue my success that ive been having the past 3 years with young bird racing with yearlings aswell.

After i had a night of sleep on it and some time to review back. I think i can call myself amongst the more lucky ones to even have 8 out of my 10 yearlings back.
The pigeons were released near france. Terrible weathers and storms and hails down at that area. Pigeons were released at 8:32 am and first pigeon arrived at 10:43. Everything normal so far.
But 5 hours after the release only about 40% of the whole Fed returned. I only had 2 yearlings back at that point and some people didnt even have 1 pigeon back at all.
I dont want to blame anyone But i do also think the race shouldve been delayed to today,
Despite that tho My uncle who i race together this year with. (Everyone with their own birds). Did pretty well. We had the Most % in the club and the 3rd and 4th in club and 16th and 20th in fed.
We are happy with the performance overall but sad with how the race went and the high amount of losses in the fed. Some people will probaly already have to stop due to 50-70% of their birds not beeing home and its only just the first race. But we move on from this and next saturday its on to the next race.

Got the last one back yesterday unfortunately she had a massive hole in her crop which we sewed together. We think shell make it but probaly wont be raced again this season. And it had to be the one that won 1st age pigeon club youngsters for me last year. But thats how it goes id assume a hawk got her but she made it home regardless

2nd race is done with.
246km with slight head winds.
This time it went way better then last time for me personally atleast after 20 minutes from the first bird dropping i had 7 out of 9 at home 2 hours later the last 2 also arrived within 10 minutes of each other
Was a very tough race once again but we won 1.st Club and 4th Combine with 17/43 Price cards. Couldve done a few more prices but it was a very tough and even race through the whole combine.
Had done a few changes through the last week and they seem to have worked out perfectly. Now its just some minor tweaking i have in mind to maybe get them home a bit faster but i also dont expect them to come in as fast as majority of the other birds or my uncles birds since i just race the hen's from a perch with no cock or nothing. If i had more time to prepare for this whole old+yearling racing thing i probaly couldve done a proper widowhood like everyone else here does but it was a very short circut decision to race them so the main goal for this year which i know some people would say why even participate is to just get them home save and through this year as yearlings. Next year everything will be in a more serious matter with complete widowhood and a team of 40~ pigeon. But as i said before i am still giving this my maximum effort to get the most out of them.

The past few weeks have been nothing to special pretty average results but finally this weekend on 400km we had the results that me and my uncle been looking for this season.
Winning 1st club 1st combine and 5th federation against 4753p.
Currently holding. 2nd ace yearling cock in Combine / 6th ace yealing hen in combine / 4th ace hen overall in combine / 6th Ace cock overall in combine / 4th yearling champion combine / and 2nd combine champion.
But we are only just half way through the season now with 6 out of 12 races done so ofc things can still change despite that i would say a pretty solid season so far with great results and potentially the best season over the past 10 years so far. Heres hoping that they continue comming in like they are right now.
