Just looking at the Worcester Fed sheet from Saturday's race from Frome

2,192 birds went

A whopping 33 of the top 40 positions were taken by hens

How times have changed.

15 years ago hens (sprinting anyway) were a bit of a rarity really in any great number

For the Australians this is gospel truth, engraved in stone :D
But for the rest of us, the instant reward, no effort worldview is affecting everything. Why would you have 12 widowhood cocks and be on the money every week, when you could have 50 yearling hens and get 12 of them on the drop, with no effort :D :D :D :D :D
Greetings from the land down under. :D

I feel a lot of good hens are wasted, a good hen in the right condition would be for me. Widowhood system everything as to be right for best performance, So not a great surprise for me.

All I was saying George is how times have changed

15-20 years ago at our club we'd see 500 birds sent and there was maybe 1 crate of hens -and that was pretty typical really.

Guys sprinting with hens were very much in the minority - now you're in the minority if you only race cocks

Yes I agree Mike, far too many Hens being left at home due to systems used.

Plus roundabout/ total widowhood/ celibacy
All favour the hens
Only true widowhood favours the cocks
One of the reasons I’m trying my cocks different this year so if I race hens properly next year it doesn’t upset the cock if he arrives early or she is lost

Yep, the only way to truly find out if you've any "stars" developing is to get them in racing against the best that you can find ;) ;)
