At last I've had the birds out without a hit, I've only been letting them out just before evening feed, about half 5. The first evening very few came out, those that did were very nervous and didn't go far, last night quite a few more came out, they are starting to look more confident and actually flew for a bit. I'll give them longer today and tomorrow, all being well they'll be back on an open loft Monday.

Too early for an open loft Trev, keep them restricted for a bit longer.

Agree, mine have an open loft for a few hours, but not till the start of May when the female sparrowhawk starts to sit her eggs.

But with respect King you aren't racing so you can afford to not run any risks

It's the open loft aspect of it, I am not saying don't exercise the birds, but do it with as much care as possible. I race my birds, but I don't use open loft until May, so as to cut down the exposure to the hawks,

Ybs out for an hour this morning, didn't have that cold wind like yesterday, plan to go tomorrow afternoon with the ob 20mls & have the youngster's out again all going back in loft via the trap.

I'm not sure all the training of old birds is necessary I've been 3 times to 8 mile last time it took them 8 minutes but took me 90 mins with the traffic so thought sod it not been again I know people been going twice a day in these freezing East winds be interesting to see the result this weekend there training method to how I've done it .

They still had young under them neil I was in no rush as I prefer the longer distance but still like to compete in all races,it wasn't a dig at people who train early more so that I wondered if people thought it necessary and would there be any difference if we didn't train so much.

Just a quick update as regarding how I trained upto first race I ended up 2nd club against 342 birds 13th fed not sure on birdage but sure to be over 2000 so as I did say I'm not sure all the early training is necessary.This was only my opinion but his is what suits me to how I fly. Everyone has different ways of racing and feeding to get the best from there team hope this helps some who haven't always got the time to train alot.
