So this week we were at Stoney Cross again for the third week running, 34 miles to me. The combine of 1363 birds were liberated at 10.15 in a SSE wind. I thought they would be a bit quicker this week with nice clear skies. With the SSE wind though they were going to go more North than they have the last couple of weeks.
I got my first of my 9 pigeons come out of the North at 10.54, 39mins. He was a 2 year old that was a latebred 2 years ago. He is out of a cock from Pete and a hen from Rich. The second bird also came from the North at 10.56. This was your blue pied “Steve” Buster. They are starting to get the idea of the widowhood and trap really well. Within 28 minutes of the first one I had 8 of the 9. The later ones came out of the NW so had obviously gone with the main convoy of combine birds before breaking out.
I was actually very pleased with them.

A 5th club is quite good. Buster’s was 19th. The one at the bottom of the sheet is the yearling of Busters that was my nom bird. He was actually my 7th bird. This is my clocking sheet.

As can be seen all the early pigeons in the combine were North Bristol and Gloucester. Well North of me. If these pigeons were taking a direct route they would have gone a good 20 miles North of me. From only 34 miles to me mine would have to break at the race point and not circle.

Well done Andy, good to see that the birds are settling into their new system bruv.
A bit more distance next week could be good for them 👍

So this week we were at Chale on the Isle of Wight with the WOESRC.
I don’t quite know what went on. At first we were told that they were going to catch the 8.00am ferry. Then we were told they had caught the 3.00am ferry and were on site at 4.45am. The convoyer then had a sleep until 9.00am. They said they were then watered and at 10.10 the were cutting the strings ready for liberation. They then didn’t liberate until 11.00am in a light ENE with birds clearing quickly in one batch.
I thought that they could do a mile a minute. I had my first one at 12.06 for the 57mls. So a bit slower. This was a three year old, my second bird was at 12.13, a two year old who was my first bird last week. By 12.38 I had 6/10. I got all of them in the end.
I know this is great but it is difficult flying from such a short distance with the spread of the combine. The other thing is that I am the only loft around here. The nearest being over 3 miles from me in a straight line so mine always have to break at some point. They were coming in a bit from the north so they had gone North of me which is proven by the line the combine winners were.
This is our club result.
