You are correct Andy my deep litter is getting on for about 8 years old now I just remove the top layer about every 2 months but leave the lower 3 inches as it is, find my birds would sooner nest on the floor this is ok if you are just interested in long distance as I am, all the best for the coming season.

I have got some battery LED lights in the main loft which are pretty good if I do have to feed them late but I really don't get too hung up on cleaning them out every day. I'm happy with the deep litter on the floor, as Phil says the birds do quite like nesting in it, I clean all the perches and boxes once a week which works ok for me I do clean out more during spring and summer as I do enjoy it on a nice day but I get absolutely no pleasure from cleaning out on a nasty winters day
