Re: few of this years ybs

I don't wean them.
They have a feed pot and a small drinker in the nest box. And a bit of the red grit,
They learn to eat and drink and when they are big enough they start jumping out of their box.
Then they can go and join the other youngsters.
They aren't weaned, they just leave home.

Re: Life in Bendigo.

While I was taking pictures, my wife, of quite a long time, took my hand and we walked around the garden.
It is a joy.
This is our garden, not great pictures, but you get the picture....lol

Re: Life in Bendigo.

:D Yep, Trev, we are. Here's Catherine feeding an adult magpie. It took about 20 cat biscuits out of her hand while I took pictures. We have that horrible plastic tablecloth there because the magpies won't stay off it. At the weekend, my wife has a sleep in. During the week she gets up and sends me ...

Re: few of this years ybs

i'm thinking of bring in a red as i don't have any, do you clean the nest were there are ybs Andy No I don’t clean the nest bowl out or around the nest bowl until the youngsters are weaned. Unless it gets particularly bad or the parents are wet feeders. I just feel that it all helps to build immuni...

Too right.
You have done your share, and a bit more, George.
Time to have some rest and enjoyment.

Re: Life in Bendigo.

Late this afternoon I was walking past the table on the patio, and a baby magpie ran up to me on the table. I had a tin of pigeon food so I put some in my hand and held it out. It immediately started picking up grains and dropping them, it was hungry, but this was not what it wanted. I called out to...

Re: Most pairs on eggs

Good news Trev. Good to hear you’ve had one of the hens return and a couple more settled. I have had most of my first eggs that are going to hatch, hatch. I have had a few not hatch but have 12 youngsters rung and 3 more to ring tomorrow. I agree, it's great that one of the hens has returned. and a...
