I’ve now had 3 strays in already this year. The first one disappeared after a few days a few weeks ago. 11 days ago I had a yearling come in that I think is probably a latebred as it looks like it is still holding 4 nest flights. Then just a couple of days later I had an unrung one come in. This afternoon I had one of my sons come into the shop before he went home. He works with my eldest son but lives about 23 miles away, 18 in a straight line. So I sent him home with both the strays. He said he let them go at 5.30. Mine were out but when I got them in at 6.15 the yearling was already back. Haven’t seen the unrung one YET.

My son does live North of me and I have asked him if he is working around here whether he would mind taking my birds home with him a couple of times a week for the next couple of weeks if the weather is ok. Usually he is home around 5 so I’ll have them basketed ready for him. Should be a useful bit of training before the season starts with it being the direction I would take them myself. The grandchildren will love letting them go. They have a large back garden with fields behind. The other benefit of course is that I can be there to see them home.

Yep. Great chance to get some repetitive tossing into them.

Teach them the difference between loft flying, for the fun of it, and flying home in a straight line, with some urgency.

Get stuck into them, Andy! {pear}

Murray.
